Rules are rules
We have the Metro, a system of lane driving, rules, but we don’t seem to be following them. Government has given us systems, now it is for us to put them to use
Scene 1 - You are standing at a red light patiently waiting for it to turn green, counting seconds with the timer above. Even before you are done counting the last three seconds, you can hear the vehicles behind you honking away endlessly .
Scene 2 - You are all set to head to your office and place yourself somehow in the jampacked Metro. But, at the next station itself, one passenger refuses to let the Metro doors close before he too fits into it.
West Delhi has been blessed in the recent past with Metro, low floor buses, subways, flyovers and best of malls. The question is do we deserve them or are we just taking it all for granted.
By displaying an absolute lack of patience and discipline, we somehow disregard the conveniences that we have earned. It is strange to see that perfectly educated and sane people like us need guards to help us stand in queues at Metro platforms and lane driving remains a dream on Delhi roads till date. All this simply makes one wonder, what makes us so insensitive to things and people around.
Not only this, travelling in buses and even walking down the streets. With roadside corners being put to use as mobile toilets and residential parks being used as car parking zones, one is left amazed by the multi-usage of things. "The most irritating thing while travelling in buses is men sitting on the ladies or senior citizens seat and not getting up even after being asked," says Reema Jain, a resident of Janak Puri.
With the government making all efforts to provide us with the best of comforts, we as citizens also have a moral responsibility to ensure that we use them in a right manner. The need of the hour is to be ’alive, awake and alert’ and exercise a bit of patience, because as they say, you get the chicken by hatching the egg, not by smashing it.
