Cupid’s calling

How can ’lovely hearts’ of the city shy away from celebration of love when cupid comes calling. WDP reader Prerana Pal talks about V-Day in all its hues

Popularly known as Valentine’s Day, February 14 is when every nook and corner of city is stalked with Valentine’s Day cards and goodies. The flower shops, hotels, restaurants cash on the V-Day fever by introducing special attractions to woo couples. Pastry and cake shops across the city start baking those spongy heart-shaped cakes with special love messages on the top.

’Best Dressed Couple’ or ’Best Dancing Couple’ contests are introduced to add some spice. Shopping malls and multiplexes are thronged by lovers all day through.

The World Wide Web is also flooded with lovey-dovey blogs and e-greeting portals introduce special Valentine’s Day e-cards to meet the demand for the occasion. With city’s youth going bonkers to tie the nupital knot on February 14, the rates of farmhouse and banquet halls double up to meet the demand.

But, while the whole world loves to celebrate this festival of love, few anti-socials prefer to play a spoil sport. Some youngsters also try to take law into their hands by driving under influence of liquor. Cases of molestation and assaults also rise with many females falling prey to it.

Keeping this in mind, one wonders if we need a day like Valentine’s Day alone to confess love to our partners. If not then, why then the hullabaloo is created every year, demanding on celebration or ban of Valentine’s Day. Valentine’s Day is a pure celebration of love and togetherness. Celebrating it across the globe peacefully and happily, without spoiling the sanctity, will sure form spread the message of love across. With this, let’s all indulge in the spirit of love and romance and enjoy the day to the hilt!
